I'm an animal lover- I'll admit it. And I'm compassionate....so just remember that as you're judging me while reading this!!!
Last Tuesday night Greg came inside and said he saw a skunk in the back yard- so out we all went with flashlights....couldnt' find it. I shrugged it off as his need to use his glasses, and it was probably a cat. A little while later, took our steak scraps out to Tilly, our outdoor cat...and what do I see on our back patio....a HUGE skunk going into Tilly's cat house! I went running to try and shoo it away and Greg is yelling at me to get away from it! So, I did- and we decided we needed to try and trap this thing!
Wednesday evening he brought a trap home, and Thursday morning when we woke up- here this little guy was. I felt bad for it cause it's little face was so cute! I assumed that Greg would take it to work with him, and "take care of it"...and by that, I mean he tells me he lets it go into the wild, and never tells me the actual truth....
Well, he didn't- so he sat there all day in the trap...Then Friday comes, and he still hasn't done anything with it! Our brother-in-law and nephew decided that they wanted to deal with it, so we left Friday afternoon for our weekend getaway to Omaha with the thought that when we got back - it would be gone. WRONG.... something about watching a stupid KU game that hindered their ability to do the dirty deed... so we got home Sunday night and the poor little fellow was still in there! Greg told me that if I could single-handedly get the skunk out of the trap, that we could let it go. So after half and hour of trying to get him out, in the dark, I finally was able to set him free. I knew that he had learned his lesson from being in there so long. (During this time in captivity, he had managed to dig a MASSIVE trench around almost the entire perimeter of the cage! NICE ONE!) After a little snack of catfood that I gave him- off he runs into the night. So, we set the trap again- just in case he hasn't learned his lesson :)

I mean LOOK AT THAT FACE! How could you not want to rescue that little guy! Too cute!
Which brings us to Monday morning...we wake up and there is a skunk in the trap! I couldn't believe it- I ran out there...but it was a different skunk- a much bigger and much more feisty skunk... I go to work, assuming that Greg again will take it to work...nope- come home and he is still there! Greg states that he is not sure how to broach this issue- afraid that if he gets to close, he'll get sprayed...if he shoots it, then the muscles will relax and the stink will be released that way too.... so we leave him another night... and now we are caught up to today.......
I am getting Livie in the car to leave this morning, and realize I forgot my phone... I go back inside to get it, then when I'm coming out- remember that the forecast for today is RAIN.... I feel kinda bad for this skunk too, so I decide I should put a blanket over part of the cage so he has a little shelter.... He didn't want a shelter.
I totally got sprayed!!!!! Not actually directly- but caught the downwind of it all! Saw the whole thing happen in slow-mo. Rear lifted and yellow mist puffing out-- NA-STY! I thought maybe he missed me and went inside to ask Greg if I smelled like a skunk- he about vomited..had my answer!
Great! So now I have to do the laundry, wash my hair, take a bath, change my clothes..... Didn't get to work until an hour and a half later!
Still have the smell of skunk in my house- not sure how to go about getting it out! I have febreezed the heck out of the house, lit candles, opened the windows... not seeming to help.
I did not get a picture of skunk #2..... but he will be meeting his demise thanks to that little stunt! I WILL get the last laugh!
(might take me 2 months to get the smell out..but I will laugh then!)
Any tips on getting the smell out????????????
